The first speaker for today was Cindi Thordarson from EcoGraphics Printing in Lakewood, Colorado. Cindi wanted to let our new members where she came from and how she ended up here. Cindi was born in Tacoma, WA, just south of Seattle and moved to Boise, ID when she was a couple months old, after 3 years her father was transferred to Spokane, WA in 1967. Her formative years were spent in Spokane and her parents still live there. Cindi’s mom started involving her in the mailing world when she was in junior high school putting labels and tabs on mailings for the hospital that she worked for. In high school Cindi actually did artwork for many of the publications that her mother was in charge of producing, also in high school she started in the printing end of the business. Her high school had a full-service print shop that produced newsletters, programs and many other projects for not just their high school but some of the other schools in the district. Cindi went to college for 3 and a half years studying teaching, history, art history, graphic design and geology and never decided on a major – so she knows a little about a lot of things! After dropping out she moved back home and decided to move to Colorado for the first time – moving in with 3 guys and 1 other girl in a house that 2 years ago sold for 500,000 on Lincoln about 3 blocks from I-25. She lived there and worked at the 7-11 on 3rd and Broadway. This was one of her favorite jobs and she even got to meet John Elway and a couple other players from the Orange Crush days… The personalities of the clientele at that 7-11 went from street people to the executives from downtown Denver. It really taught her how to treat customers and smile through anything. She moved back to Spokane and met her future husband while studying graphic design at a community college. Cindi followed him to the joys of Vacaville, CA, not her best idea however she made lifetime friends there, husband not so much. This was her first actual paid job as a press operator at a PIP Printing in Vallejo, CA, the manager hired her not because she had the experience but because of her attitude. Cindi stayed there until her then hubby found a job back in Washington state and found that with a printing background she could get a job just about anywhere. After her marriage failed she decided to move back to Colorado in 1995, after working in a printing company in the DTC for 2 years she interviewed with Scott at EcoGraphics Printing in Jan. of 1997 – driving from the Tech Center in the middle of a snow storm for that interview. They have now worked together for 20 years and other than kind of being like an old married couple (there may be some bickering going on) they work really well together. EcoGraphics Printing has struggled through the changes in technology and moving into the digital age, but now offer a full range of offset printing to full color digital printing to their newest addition of a full color envelope press. The main drawback to new technology is cost, when the new digital presses came out about 11 years ago they could cost upwards of 250,000.00 and required a room that had humidity and temperature controls. Now they are the size of a large copier and although they can be affected by our lack of humidity or high humidity – they produce jobs that back in the day would have been really tough to print on a standard offset press. The last thing that Cindi wanted to tell us about was the Annual Christmas card program with Children’s Hospital Colorado, they did the voting 2 weeks ago and the cards have been chosen for this year – there are 7 sponsors this year and she showed us the card designs for this years. She encouraged us, as always to purchase a pack through the hospital to support the cancer and blood disease units of the hospital. In the past this program has earned up to 70,000 dollars that go straight to programs at the hospital, Cindi would really like to hit that high again this year!!If you are looking for a printer that has moved with the times, offers excellent customer service and a total full service local printing company give EcoGraphics Printing and Cindi a call!

The second speaker today was Lori Bush-Engel of Modern Woodmen of America in Golden, Colorado. Her talk today was about the passion she feels about the work that she does.
Why I Do What I Do –
I’m passionate about helping my members determine their financial goals. We work together to create a plan based on their unique needs.  I can help you plan for life using a variety of tools, including…life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and variable annuities.
I enjoy working with all families, singles, those approaching retirement and business owners.
I am very proud of earning Rookie of the Year in 2010 and Agent of the Year in 2011, earning Modern Woodmen trips, earning my FIC and CFFM designations, and especially earning my clients’ trust to help them when planning for life.
Before Modern Woodmen, I was in the mortgage industry and worked as operations manager for several entrepreneurs.
I chose Modern Woodmen because – I believe in being benevolent, from one person to a whole organization. We give to each other as members and give back as an organization.
The best part of my career is that whether I’m helping my clients with their retirement planning and/or protecting their families and businesses with life insurance, I feel good knowing they can rest their head on their pillow at night knowing they have their planning for life in place.
A favorite moment in my career was when –
I experienced my first death claim, which involved a young family where the wife/mother was killed. Because I helped them put their life insurance in place for the parents and kids, I was able to deliver a check to the family so they could move back to their hometown and re-establish their new norm.
If you are looking for a financial services person who truly cares for each and every one of her clients – give Lori Bush-Engel a call.
