Today’s first speaker was Joan Brown of JB Decorating and The Design Coach in Denver, CO. Joan took her time today to speak about how to choose interior colors for your home. Joan just attended a seminar on how the colors we chose effect how we live. Everyone has their favorite color and color combination that we surround ourselves with, Joan explains that some of these colors can affect how you live. Every color can create a mood – depending on the color of blue the mood of either sadness or calm and cooling can be created. Joan went on to explain with a combination colors you can give your room a dramatic punch and create an atmosphere that is comfortable. Some tips from Joan for different preferences. If you prefer white wall and neutral furnishings – opt for just a touch of color like a red or orange to create a warm, comforting atmosphere.  Another option is to go bold in a smaller space like a powder room or foyer, working with one of your favorite colors can create a feeling of home. This will give you the punch of color while the rest of your home has the light feel of the white or neutral color. For those of us that like splashes of color throughout our homes-Joan says create colorful vignettes displaying some of your favorite accessories in a grouping that reflects the colors you love. You can also try painting a piece of furniture like a chair in your office or a period piece that can be brought up to date with an unconventional hue. Color doesn’t have to be on the walls – by keeping the room neutral and then putting color on the ceiling or piece of furniture you can create a dramatic effect. Joan went on to explain how colors can change your mood such as yellow captures joy and happiness, red raises the energy level, light blue brings with it a calm, soothing feeling, dark blue brings with it sadness, green encourages relaxation and unwinding, lavender bring out creativity and orange creates excitement. If you need a designer to walk you through you the design process or just some one that can give you a new perspective on your space, give Joan Brown of JB Decorating and The Design Coach a call! For imaginations that have no limits and budgets that do.
