We had a Spotlight Speaker today and it was Terry Gore from Homemade Gourmet in Golden, Colorado. When Terry speaks we always get samples – so today she had set out the Homemade Gourmet Mock Spinach dip, Maria’s Salsa and Shrimp Bruschetta with a variety of crackers and the Homemade Gourmet Chipotle Cheese Crackers. After taste testing we all agreed that each item was very tasty! Terry also wanted to go over the new products offered by Homemade Gourmet this fall. These include – Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Artichoke Dip (requires more cooking than the Mock Spinach Dip), Lemonberry Scone Mix, Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie and Carmel Apple Cheesecake Mix. Homemade Gourmet has also added the Simply Simmer Line for your crock pot with two items, Simply Simmer Stroganoff and the Simply Simmer Cacciatore and have also introduced two new bread mixes the Roasted Onion and Homemade Gourmet Beer Bread. Terry explained to us that although each packet of dry mix has a recipe on it you can also make many other meals with each mix – such as the Maria’s Salsa – it makes the salsa but can also make shrimp scampi – by simply heating some light oil on the stove, throwing in some shrimp and adding Maria’s Salsa or Terry’s family favorite, Guacamole – by simply mashing three avocados and adding the Maria’s Salsa. By going to the Homemade Gourmet website and going to the Keys to the Kitchen tab you can find thousands of alternative recipes for each of the mixes, remember that each packet is all inclusive with the seasonings and only requires that you add the wet or perishable items. Homemade Gourmet is also now starting to color code their mixes – so the Dinner or Meal Mixes now have a red label, the Seasonings and Dips have a green label, the Desserts have a blue label and Breads and Soups have an orange label. They also seem to be moving into more gourmet meals – with the Simply Simmer Cacciatore recipe, the new Ooo La La French Onion Soup mix, the Sun Dried Tomato Dip, the new Panko Parmesan Casserole and new Silky Chocolate Mouse Pie. It was then that Terry brought out the Lemonberry Scones with frosting for us to taste for desert! They were yummy!! Terry also explained to us that for her to prepare all of the items we were trying out today it only took 45 minutes to prepare and cook. She also reminded us that Homemade Gourmet offers mixes for those that require a Diabetic or Glutten Free diet, and have several meal combinations that can be prepared for specialized diets. She also printed out a few recipes for us to try.
