The first speaker this week was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center in Golden Colorado. Erin started off by telling us that this February will be her 15th anniversary in business in Golden. She will be having an Open House at her office on February 20th from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Other news for Erin is her new website,, this new website is an upgrade from her old with links to her blog and email newsletter. It also offers more information about her growing practice and new health options. She will be adding on to the website soon with videos about the new products and training she is working on. This year Erin will be working on her internet marketing through her Facebook page and twitter, where she has been tweeting out health articles for the last couple months. Our second speaker this week was Mo Lukens of Mo’s Family Portraits in Golden, Colorado. Mo shared that this too is her 15th year in business; she will be celebrating in March. Mo wanted to talk to us about her strategy in marketing that has helped her continue to grow her business. The first rule that Mo has always followed is a leave behind with her photographs on it. A “leave behind” is a printed item such as a rack card, postcard or flyer. This reminds people she visits about who she is and what she can do. Secondly her website is designed to make people call and ask questions – there is no pricing and very little verbiage, it is mostly a gallery of her work. The galleries on her website show all of the different types of portraits she has done and is very user friendly so a person can find what they are looking for quickly and contact Mo easily. Another way that Mo connects with her clients and finds new one is through the Every Door program offered by the Post Office – this program offers specific neighborhoods for a mailing at 14.5 cents per postcard (Mo supplies the postcard) and this way Mo can make it neighborhood specific including pictures of a family in that area that others might recognize. Those who see someone they know are more likely to call Mo when looking for senior portraits or a family reunion. Another promotion that Mo does for Mo’s Family Portraits is any auction that asks for a donation, she will give a Gift Certificate. This keeps her name out there and with the purchaser she will gain a new client. Mo is selective with her mailing list and only her clients that obtain a certain monetary level will get special coupons throughout the year, along with her corporate clients that work with her for their headshots as this is a way for Mo to get in with the families in that corporation. Lastly Mo talked about networking which is something that she let go while her daughter was growing up.  As her daughter has gotten older it has made it easier for Mo to get out to the various groups that she was involved with in the past.
