Today’s only speaker was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center in Golden, Colorado. This February will be Erin’s 15th year in business here in Colorado, Her ex-husband and she started their business the first of February 1998 and just a couple months later she joined Connect Club for the first time. She will be working on something special to celebrate this milestone. Her ex-husband and she started their business the first of February 1998 and just a couple months later she joined Connect Club for the first time. Erin quit Connect Club after four years with the demands of her business and life – when she wanted to rejoin 4 years later there was another chiropractor in the group so she had to wait until 2008 to rejoin. Her talk today centered around success stories of her patients. Erin’s chiropractic is fairly main stream and she can work on every member of your family from children to grownups – her table drops down and with the use of an activator she can adjust with minimal effort. She is also a board certified acupuncturist and offers that service as part of her practice along with physical therapy. In the physical therapy area Erin is trained in the use of an electrical muscle stimulator and the ultrasound machine to get in deep with each treatment. Dr. Foley’s first success story was 36 year old female when she first came to Erin’s office in 2004. She had lived for 4 years with daily headaches that required daily pain medication. Erin used a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture and within 6 weeks she was 50% better and had been able to reduce her daily use of pain medication – after 10 weeks she was 75% better and off her pain medication. She came back for 1-2 times a month for about a year and is now coming in once every six months and is pain free. Her next success story involves sinus and allergies – a large part of her business – as we are so dry here in Colorado – your allergies can react year round. In 2002, a 40 year old woman came to see her with seasonal allergies that were worse in the fall, she was taking clariten and allergra and was being recommended for allergy shots, which she didn’t want to do. They started working together with acupuncture and chiropractic, and then added in some Chinese Herbs. Dr. Foley is not a Chinese herbalist but has found them useful in her in working with her patients and has an herbalist that she trusts. They worked for 4 months 2 sessions a week and then for 1 session a week for about six months and now she only sees her a couple times a year for chiropractic work and her last allergy treatment was in 2010 – so the combination has become a permanent treatment for her. The last patient Erin wanted to discuss was a 49 year old man, who came in for lower back pain with leg pain and numbness. His pain came on after sitting for a long time, then going out to hit golf balls and over swung and had immediate lower back pain and numbness traveling down his right leg to his big toe. He came into Erin’s office with shooting pains and limping with a pain level around 7 out of 10. She knew that she was working with a bulged disk and sciatica which Dr. Foley treated with a combination of chiropractic and physical therapy, after the second session his pain level was down to 2 out of 10. He came back in for a third session with no pain and minimal numbness. She still sees him outside the office around town– and he tells her “I just feel so great that I haven’t needed to see you!” Although her main client base for maintenance work is female, women are naturally just more proactive with maintaining what positive changes they have experienced, men generally come in when they can’t walk upright and are gone until the next injury – she however does have a few male clients that do come in for maintenance!
The benefit to what Erin does is that when working with chronic pain – she can do so without using the pain medications that your medical doctor is so willing to prescribe – that will not treat the problem. Your medical doctor is great for injury and major health issues however they do not deal with long term pain without pharmaceuticals. Erin can work through the area and diagnose the symptoms of your pain rather than just treat it with cortisone shots or pain medications. Erin can help out with plantar fasciitis by using chiropractic techniques, acupuncture and orthotics, not only will this help your foot pain it will also help to straighten out the rest of your body. Erin can treat all varieties of pain from headaches to your toes – if your need a Chiropractor/Acupuncturist that you can trust to listen to your issues and work with you ~ give Dr. Erin Foley a call!

Our first speaker today was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center in Golden, Colorado where she has been in practice for 14 years. Erin had two major topics today the first is the renewed attack by the FDA on the supplement industry. This was first attempted in 1994 and created such outrage in the general public that Congress passed a law that prohibited the FDA from banning popular nutrients. However, there was a loophole in the 1994 law that allows the FDA to regulate ingredients introduced after October 15th1994. The FDA wants to regulate supplements like synthetic food preservatives, such as aspartame, mono-sodium glutamate and sodium dioxide. Since food additives have known cancer risks and other health problems, the FDA has set guideline that limits the allowable concentrations of these additives to levels that are physiologically inert. To implement these guidelines on nutritional supplements is essentially limiting the dosages of dietary supplements to physiologically inert levels – defeating the entire purpose of taking supplements with health sustaining nutrients. These new guidelines that the FDA wants to set into effect are so flawed that even nutrients that have been shown to be safe in hundreds of human clinical studies would fail the new safety guidelines. As an example – all of the manufacturers of certain fish oils would now have to run a study for up to one year where animals would be forced to consume the human equivalent of 240,000 milligrams every day of fish oil, the current typical dosage of fish oil is 2400 mg a day – 100 times less than the FDA is proposed for testing –it will make it impossible for these supplements to pass there by will be pulled from the market. These safety thresholds are in excess of those required by the pharmaceutical drugs despite many studies showing that supplements are safer and fewer side effects that pharmaceuticals. If you want to become involved write your local congressman and express your concern about the new FDA draft guidance on dietary supplements.

Dr. Erin Foley had a second issue that she want to cover today and that is through a recent experience how easily our older generation will just say yes to what ever their doctor tells them. Your best word with a doctor is “NO”. You need to not only look for alternatives but also the safety and well being of your body – you do not always need the latest drug or surgery. Ask questions and be proactive – it is your body, when it comes to health care your best approach is a conservative approach. Erin reminded us that 50% of all back surgeries fail because they are not done for the right reason. Disks are usually the biggest culprit of back pain, when they are out of place the gel that creates the cushion in your joint is a toxin to the body and the lack of support will pinch a nerve. Dr. Erin Foley can help you avoid surgery through a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture – using conservative care and only advising surgery when it is truly necessary. Through combined care you can keep your body healthy throughout your life and isn’t that what we all want! Dr. Erin Foley can help you keep your body healthy give her a call!

Today’s second speaker was Karen Lee of Karen Lee Massage Center in Golden, Colorado. Today Karen wanted to show us how to do a 15 minute face lift through massage – something you can do every morning to perk up your day! Starting with a décolleté massage – the chest and neck area in a figure eight motion thoroughly stimulating the blood vessels and skin. You then move to under your jaw move your fingers side to side to tighten and firm that area. You, then move to your lip area pulling your fingers right to left across your mouth and slowly move onto you cheeks. The massage motion for your cheeks is a figure motion working the skin and circulation for a bright youthful look. From your cheeks you move to under the eyes – for this move it is mainly pressure withyour fingers to increase blood flow – this pressure will also help withmany sinus issues. We, then, move on to the forehead – starting withfigure eights on your forehead – finishing with the right and left massage across the head. Karen also showed us what is called the Tingler, a massage tool that is to be used on your scalp. This is a tool with metal prongs that surround the head providing a tingling sensation when applied. If you want a massage that will wash away your stress give Karen Lee a call!!

Today our first speaker was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic & Acupuncture in Golden, Colorado. Dr. Foley has been in practice since 1987 and at the same location in Golden for the last thirteen years. Our backs our complicated structures with many bones, ligaments, muscle and nerves. Many people complain of back pain at some point in their lives whether it be from a strain or just not taking care of their back. To avoid straining your back Dr Erin Foley has a couple of recommendations: 1) Maintain a healthy diet and weight. 2) Remain active – try to work out 3 times a week. 3) Avoid prolonged inactivity. 4) Warm up or stretch prior to physical activity (even gardening). 5) Watch your posture. 6) Always lift with your knees and do not twist your back when lifting. These few items will help you to avoid back pain or injury throughout your life. However, if you have pack pain, Erin wanted to dispel the myth of bone cracking, originally chiropractors would put you on a table and would literally crack your back to release the pressure vacuum that can build up between the vertebrae. These days there is more finesse with the use of more sophisticated chiropractic tables and a chiropractic tool called the activator –a hand held instrument that the chiropractor can adjust to apply a very directed and exact amount pressure to the joint. When you have injured or strained your back and go to a chiropractor depending on your age and the type of injury Dr. Erin Foley can give you relief in about two weeks, if you continue visits up to four weeks – 75% of her patients are out of pain. At this point Dr. Foley would recommend a maintenance program that will keep you out of pain and in alignment. Erin commented that most of her male clients come in until the pain is gone and then she won’t see them again until they have another problem, and with her women clients once they are out of pain they will come back for routine maintenance. Chiropractic treatments allow the patients to be in control of their own body, avoid surgery and long term pain medications. A question was asked “What about people who crack their own necks, backs or other joints? Does this cause other problems?” Dr. Erin Foley explained that when cracking your own neck or other joint this is actually adjusting above or below the injury point rather than the area that is truly the problem. It most likely will not cause further injury but will create an area of hyper-mobility in the affected area. Dr. Foley wanted to leave us with a list of areas and conditions she can treat with chiropractic care: 1) low back pain 2) sciatica 3) neck pain/strain 4) headaches 5) joint pain (hip, shoulder, elbow, ankle and knee) 6) sprains/strain or injury 7) arthritis. Combining her experience with acupuncture in her office she can also treat: 1) fibromyalgia 2) menopause 3) PMS 4) pregnancy issues 5) bell’s palsy 6) vertigo 7) digestive ailments and IBS. When looking for a natural way to manage your health related issues give Dr. Erin Foley a call!

The second speaker today was Linda Schaffer of GL Specialties of Arvada, Colorado. The first item that Linda wanted to discuss was about ordering promotional products ourselves online, a client of GL Specialties went online to order t-shirts for a function – thinking it would be simple – really – what could go wrong. Apparently just about everything – they ordered a simple white t-shirt with a one color logo on the front side of the shirt. When they received the shirts last week – the material was so thin you could see right through it – the logo that they sent was not “camera ready” and the t-shirt company did not contact the client for correct art. So not only could you see through the shirts – their logo was hardly legible and the ink had also transferred to the back side of the shirt. So, yes you can order promotional items online, but you do need to know what you are doing. That is where Linda and GL Specialties comes in – not only has Linda been in the industry for a long time, she has worked with many of the best manufactures out there and will work to get you the best product at the best cost for you. Linda understands what the companies need for artwork and she will not let anything go into production until it is right!

Linda also had some samples of what is out there now and is new and different. The first item she displayed was a portable flower vase – this has become a popular item. They are made of flexible plastic and fold flat, but when opened up they have a flat bottom and can be filled with water and flowers, with you logo on the front. Though these have become popular there are a few manufactures that haven’t really got the hang of it and the vases are hard to open and keep open. The next item Linda had was a desk toy called a popper – you push (really hard) and it suctions to the desk and when it releases it pops. Linda’s favorite manufacturer in California – mainly deals in the hard plastics – is now making a line of safety glasses that are very stylish and has your name on both sides. The one that stumped us was the grocery bag carrier, a molded piece that has a comfortable grip and can carry quite a few bags in one load. These come in about 20 different colors and has a large imprint area. Linda’s clever promotional product was a toothpaste squeezer – this to comes in a multitude of colors and would be the perfect promotional for a dentist!

Linda also wanted to discuss imprinting on promotional products – you want to pick an item that has an area large enough to get you message out – you do not want to try to put 5 lines of type and your logo on a pen for example. Linda can help you with this decision and get you started in the right direction when looking into promoting your business. Lastly Linda wanted to discuss t-shirts again, imprinting versus embroidery – with imprinting – now days they use better technology so you can get many colors and will not have to worry about tight registration charges that we had to deal with in the past. Embroidery can look nice – you will have to use a higher quality shirt however to avoid puckering and sagging when worn. Also when doing embroidery keep the colors to a minimum the additional colors can drive to cost up – with set up (per color) and close registration (per color) – to a point that it may not be worth it in the end! If you are looking for someone to help you promote your business Linda Schaffer at GL Specialties has the expertise and knowledge to get the right product for you!

Our first speaker today was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic in Golden, Colorado. Dr. Foley wanted talk to us today about Strategies for Natural Pain Relief, a part of her practice that she is very passionate about.

Chiropractic and Acupuncture can offer a great way to manage pain naturally. They are alternatives to using drugs to manage pain, and are much healthier for the body.

Millions of Americans depend on over the counter and prescription drugs to manage pain. Here are some reasons why this may not be such a good idea:

Painkillers are NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen and Motrin) and COX-2 Inhibitors (prescription drugs such as Vioxx and Celebrex). These drugs are linked to heart attacks and strokes.

The FDA has asked manufacturers of drugs containing acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) to change the labeling to limit the dosage and add a liver toxicity warning.

Vioxx is a painkiller that was pulled off the market in 2004 after 60,000 people died from its increased heart risks.

The painkiller NSAIDS can also cause gastrointestinal problems such as bleeding in the stomach. Many people find they can’t take these drugs for this reason.

These facts presented by Dr. Foley are very scary and some things that you should keep in mind when your physician prescribes them for you – ask questions and make sure that you are fully informed on any prescription drugs you are taking.

Chiropractic care, by working on aligning the spine, will help reduce pain by restoring the body to better function, and muscles are less tight and work with less strain.

Acupuncture helps with pain as well, as it releases endorphins, which are painkilling hormones, and are like opiates that go into the brain. Have you ever had runner’s high? That’s your endorphins kicking in.

Chiropractic and Acupuncture are an effective drug free alternative to use for back pain, neck pain, headaches, joint pain, sports injuries, and pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia.

If you are looking into natural alternatives to the current pain medications you are on give Dr. Erin Foley a call and she can with you to find the alternatives that are right for you and your lifestyle!

Our first speaker today was Dr. Erin Foley of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center in Golden, Colorado. Erin wanted to take her time today to introduce herself and some of the treatments she does in her office to our newest members. Dr. Erin Foley has been in practice in Golden for 13 years this February 1st, she and her ex husband started Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic February 1997 after moving here from California where she had practiced since graduating from Chiropractic College in 1987. She also offers acupuncture for which, she has had 500 hours of school and 3 months of internship, Erin reminded us that most people who train in acupuncture have not gone through the school and training that she has. When looking for an acupuncturist keep in mind that the level of education and training is very important as to the results you can expect! Dr. Foley then explained that in her office she uses low force chiropractic and uses both a drop table and an activator for the patients’ adjustments. She also went over some of the areas she works with commonly in her practice. Shoulder injuries – most commonly are tendonitis (front of the shoulder) and rotator cuff (back of the shoulder), elbow injuries – Golfers elbow (inside of the elbow) & tennis elbow (outside of the elbow), and Erin reminded us that you do not have be a golfer or tennis player to get these injuries. Dr. Foley also sees many clients with hand and wrist injuries, which is most commonly treated with the activator such as carpel tunnel (which she treats, if in the early stages) and the relatively new trigger thumb – which Erin treats with both chiropractic and acupuncture. Other common injuries Erin sees are hip and knee injuries that are treated both with the activator and for the hips the drop table, most hip problems are caused by a twisted hip joint and can cause many other problems because it will throw of your gait and balance. The base of your body the feet and ankles were the last area Erin wanted to cover today – with ankles, Erin most commonly sees are sprains which she very successfully treats with acupuncture. The last problem Erin discussed was planter fasciitis – or tightness and severe heel pain – which can be attributed to your hip and gait, Dr. Foley treats this ailment, with great success, with both disciplines acupuncture and chiropractic. Dr. Foley’s last comment was about “Wolff’s Law” which is essentially the observation that bone changes its external shape and internal architecture in response to the stress acting on it. So, if you are out of alignment your bones will shift to accommodate for pain and stability. If you are looking for an experienced chiropractor or acupuncturist that will listen to your needs call Dr. Erin Foley and set up an appointment!

Today’s second speaker was Laura Kilty of Shaklee in Golden, Colorado. Laura wanted to remind us about the Shaklee Cinch Weight Loss Program. She talked to us about this last year about this time and Laura wanted to go over the Cinch Program again because this is the time of year where we are re-evaluating if we like where we are at. We are gearing up to make some changes, now this may be you or someone you know, but it all starts with just 10lbs. Laura went on to discuss that being overweight is associated with the four main health challenges – heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. For the men in our lives there is another reason – extreme weight gain lowers testosterone, a recent study shows that for men who gained 30lbs, that weight gain lowered their testosterone as much as if they had aged 10 years. With most diets today you loss muscle mass, which in turn lowers your body’s ability to burn calories. Keep in mind that 1 pound of muscle burns 50 calories and on a typical diet you loss both muscle and fat – so when you go off the diet your body is burning fewer calories than before because of the loss in muscle mass, so you need to eat fewer calories to maintain that weight. Most of us don’t – so we gain that weight back plus more. So keeping that in mind, the Shaklee Cinch Weight Loss Program is based on scientific fact – not fad. Science tells us that leucine helps the body retain and build muscle, in the Cinch program you will find the right balance of leucine and protein which will help you keep the muscle you need and loss the pounds and inches you want. In clinical studies all of the participants lost weight, which you would expect but the amazing part was that they retained their lean muscle mass and lost only the fat. This keeps the body burning calories at the highest level. The Shaklee Cinch Program is a meal replacement program, you simply replace 2 meals a day with a Cinch shake or meal-in-a-bar and then for your third meal you eat a “sensible” meal. They also have a snack bar, the 3 in 1 Boost and Cinch Energy Tea. For meal replacement, the Shaklee Cinch Shakes, come in five flavors each containing 24 grams of protein – Vanilla, Chocolate, Café Latte, Whey Protein Vanilla (non soy), and Strawberry, and the Shaklee Meal in a Bar comes in three flavors – each with 20 grams of protein with a leucine boost – Blueberry Almond Crisp, Almond Crunch and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The 3 in 1 Boost is a vitamin with green tea and supplements to work as a blood sugar regulator and fat burner, and the Cinch Energy Tea for a natural energy boost comes in two flavors Regular and Pomegranate. The Cinch Snake Bars for that pick me up during the day comes in three flavors each with 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber – Chocolate Decadence, Lemon Cranberry, and Peanut Butter Crunch. This year Shaklee is teaming up with author of “Just 10lbs.” and intervention specialist, Brad Lamm, who has appeared on Oprah and a regular contributor to the Dr. Oz show. Brad has become a Cinch user, believes in the product and has become a Cinch user. If the Cinch Program is the right program for you at under 10.00 a day – give Laura a call and set up a time for you to learn more about the program!!

This week we had Dr. Erin Foley-Kruse of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center in Golden as our first speaker. Erin talked about the acupuncture services that she offers for her patients. Dr. Erin Foley-Kruse has been in practice for 22 years – spending 12 years of that time in Golden, Colorado. Her schooling in acupuncture includes a 3 year course of 500 hours of training followed by a 3 month internship and is NCAAOM certified, one a few here in Colorado. Acupuncture has been around for between 3000-5000 years in Chinese medicine, originally the needles were actually made of bone and they trained students on energy sensitive people. Acupuncture is the the use of the body meridians that are found throughout the body, releasing endorphins that relax the muscle and relieve pain. There are 14 meridian lines that run through the human body, each different meridian line helps or effects parts of the body, an example of this is working with the liver meridian can help with migraine headaches. The various meridians throughout the body can help with a variety of injuries and other problems, from mild traumatic brain injury – like what you would get from whiplash in a car accident or beginning stages of carpel tunnel syndrome. Dr Erin Foley Kruse recommends 6 sessions, beginning with a traditional Chinese diagnosis which takes about an hour and a half and will have several points of evaluation. This gives her a starting point to design a course of treatment and which meridians need to be worked on to better your health. So if you are thinking about working with an acupuncturist or a chiropractor your first call should be to Dr. Erin Foley Kruse at Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center.

Dr. Erin Foley Kruse * Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center * 303.271.1701 * krusedcyahoocom (krusedcyahoocom)

Our second speaker was Mary Walewski, standing in for Maki Delaet, of Educyber, your technology parter. Mary started her talk with a few fact or crap questions about social media, questions like does Dick Cheney have more Twitter followers than Ashton Kutcher – which is crap, or are the more employees on Linkdin than managers – crap, how about there are more people under 25 than those over 25 on Facebook – that is crap too. The opportunities of the new world of social network marketing have become things that we as business owners are looking into. Businesses are using Twitter to drive people to their business at just the right moment – such as a bakery tweeting that the bread is fresh out of the oven or a barbeque shop tweeting were their truck will be and followers show up to buy barbeque. When posting on Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter be yourself and don’t sell, just let the people see you as you are, the referrals will come in from second and third hand referrals. Such examples of this are Stephanie Meyer of the Twilight series – she started with a MySpace page and her blog, as people read it they created forums and fan pages that eventually got her a three book deal. Another example is the basis of Julie & Julia, this also came from a blog, people reading the blog started to send emails for more information – then CBS Morning News set up an interview and now she has a second book in the works. So using a blog to increase your sales with tips of your trade or posting ideas on your Facebook page is something that most businesses need to look into. There is also a business section on Facebook, although you have to personal to set one up. Keep it simple for both business and personal – and don’t post anything on your Facebook or Linkedin that you wouldn’t want your mom to see. Keep Maki and Educyber in mind when setting up your web page, or if you need help learning the new world of social networking for your business.

Today’s first speaker was Juli Parrott, owner of Table Mountain Travel. She started of today speaking of travel insurance, which is important on those big vacations-like cruises or all inclusive packages. Juli related stories about one client that was getting ready for a cruise and the week prior to leaving she broke her leg and couldn’t go and lost her whole vacation. Another gentleman client was leaving for an all inclusive trip in Mexico and actually got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport – missing his flight and his vacation too. It is something that many people don’t think about – we all think that no matter what we are going and there won’t be any problems. Buying travel insurance through your agent or third party insurance (rather than through the airline or cruise company) is generally the best way to go and will generally cost around 10.00 per 100.00 of the vacation cost. Don’t loose your vacation over a traffic jam or health issues. Juli, then gave us a travel quiz including a variety of unusual vacation spots around the world – we found that not many of had no idea where Lake Bykal was.

Our second speaker was Dr. Erin Foley Kruse, owner of Mountain Lifestyles Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center, in Golden Colorado. She has been at the same location since 1997 – prior to that she owned Ventura Chiropractic in California. Erin offers a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture to help her patients in the way that is best for them. She discussed the problems that chiropractic adjustments can be effective in healing, such as lower back pain and sciatica, migraine and tension headaches, chronic pain-which includes that moment when you get out of bed and can’t straighten up, fibromyalgia and sports injuries. The benefits of chiropractic care are that your body is interconnected and your spinal cord and vertebrae connect it all together and play a primary role in overall health of the entire body. In realigning the spinal column you get all the nerves working properly – it will reduce pain and allow more flexibility and movement, then further adjustments can be used to increase wellness and prevention of your overall health. Acupuncture has been used in Chinese medicine for over 2000 years working with the “meridians” in the body - these are the pathways of energy which flow through the body and connects all organs and tissues. Erin explained that traditional Acupuncture was thought of as expelling the illness or trauma from the the body, it achieves this by opening up the blocked or stagnant meridians and allowing the energy to flow. there is research that shows that acupuncture can reduce inflammation and release muscle spasms through the release of endorphins in the joints.
